100 Word Story

For four hours, we argued over the meaning of troglodyte.

“No person in their right mind, spends their whole life living down a mine shaft!”

“Miners do.”

“That’s their job, they’re not living there.”

“What about miner-birds?”

“Canaries?”

“No, with yellow eyes and dive-bomb cats.”

“Noisy miner?”

“That’s what I meant.”

“But they don’t live down mine shafts.”

“So why they called miners?”

“Being cheaper, they were used like canaries.”

“Aha! So they lived down mineshafts.”

“They’re not people, troglodytes have to be people.”

“So why did they use miner-birds?”

“To blow holes down the mine. Of course. They’re dive-bombers.”
