Babu and Dawa

Two Mount Everest porters on holiday discussing an American:

“I think he will bounce,” said Babu mischievously in Tibetan.

“His head will float away before he hits the ground,” said Dawa.

The American struggled up the mountainside.

“This is Everest?”

“Yes sir,” giggled Dawa, “this is the Chomolungma, Mother of the Universe.”

“It’s shorter than I expected,” drawled the American.

“You are closer to the sky,” pointed out Dawa.

“There’s no snow on top?”

“Monsoons wash all away.”

“The other mountains look taller?”

“You have snow blindness.”

“Amazing,” the American mused, “all in a suburb of Calcutta.”
